Buchklub der Jugend, Oesterreichischer (Austrian Book Club for Young
People), non-profit association promoting reading and literature for
children and juveniles; founded in 1948 by R. Bamberger. The Book Club
for Young People wants to encourage young people to read and to
develop their media literacy; it supports the establishment and
enlargement of school libraries.

The members (in 1994 there were 400,000 subscribers) receive coupons
and can buy books from a comprehensive book list at reduced prices in
certain bookshops. The Club publishes books for the different age
groups between 3 and 18 years as well as accompanying teacher
information and teaching aides one to four times a year.
