d. Pitten (Lower Austria), March 1, 1990, racing cyclist; in later 
years businessman. 7th in the road racing world championship in 1929, 
scored significant success in the Tour de France in 1931 and 4th in 
the world championships; one of the best professional cyclists of his 
time.
