!!!Bundesamtsgebäude
Bundesamtsgebaeude (Federal office buildings): Since the Federal
Chancellery and the federal ministries require more and more space, 3
new federal office buildings have been built since the 1980s: 1)
Ballhausplatz 3/Minoritenplatz 9, in the first district of Vienna,
built from 1982 to 1986 to plans by A. Marchart, R. Moebius & Partners
using stylistic elements used in buildings by Otto Wagner. The
building, which stands on the site of the former "Ballhaus" (ball
gaming hall), demolished in 1903, houses offices of the Federal
Chancellery, the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Federal
Ministry of the Interior. 2) Radetzkystrasse 3, in the third district
of Vienna, built from 1981 to 1986 to a design by P. Czernin with a
remarkable façade. 3) Lichtenwerderplatz 5, in the ninth
district of Vienna, built from 1986 to 1989 as part of the
superstructure of the Franz-Joseph railway station to designs by K.
Hlaweniczka and P. Czernin (reinforced concrete skeleton construction
with a façade attached to the load-bearing system), used by the
Road Traffic Licensing Department, the Police Headquarters and the
Federal Ministry of the Interior.
