Bundeskonvikte (Federal boarding-schools), federal residential 
secondary schools; their number has dwindled (1994: 11, of which 8 
were situated in Lower Austria) ever since pupils were granted free 
travel to and from school on public transport and more schools were 
built to cater for them.
