Federal Theatres (State Theatres), former Court Theatres; since 1918 
the responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Education and until 1999 
by the federal government authorities.; before 1918 administered by 
the General Management of Court Theatres. Federal Theatres comprise 
the  Burgtheater and its associate theatre, the  Akademietheater, the  
State Opera  and the  Volksoper; in 1999 these three theatres were 
turned into limited liability companies under the management of the 
holding company Bundestheater-Holding Ges.m.b.H.; the company 
Service-GmbH is also involved in the administration of the federal 
theatres, for example, in running the workshops. The 
Burgtheater-Museum, which was founded in 1929, has been integrated 
into the Austrian  Theatre Museum in Vienna.
