Bunzl & Biach#

Bunzl & Biach, internationally known family-owned group of textile, paper and pulp mills. In 1854 Moritz Bunzl opened a shop for fancy goods. In 1883 his son Max transferred the headquarters of the company from Pressburg/Bratislava to Vienna and thus laid the foundations of the internationally renowned company. In 1888 he bought up the Ortmann paper mill, a few years later the Wattens paper mill and the Lenzing pulp and paper mill. In 1936 the Austrian company was transformed into a public limited company (Aktiengesellschaft) and merged with the plants in England and Switzerland into the Bunzl group with headquarters in Switzerland. Whereas the Austrian branches underwent Aryanization under Nazi rule, other branches were set up in the United States and South Africa; returned to their rightful owners after World War II. The plants were gradually sold off between 1969 and 1980 and a single trading company was left in Austria.

BUNZL & BIACH is an Austrian specialist in all services concerning waste paper for over 100 years and is one of the largest and most significant waste paper treatment and distribution companies in Austria. As market leader in the field of the privately held waste paper removal, about 650.000 tons per year are disposed. On almost 90,000 m² at three depots, two located in Vienna and one in Upper Austria, the operational business is running with approximately 125 Employees and by an own truck fleet.

Nowadays BUNZL & BIACH is a subsidiary of the HEINZEL GROUP and the SCA Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget. With its participation in the Papyrus group, as well as with its subsidiary Chiemgau Recycling in Bavaria and Austrian Recycling in Eastern Europe is strategically positioned to recognize the responsibility for the supply of the Austrian paper mills also in these regions.
