b. Vienna, May 17, 1797, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 28, 1865, politician, son of Count Rudolf  
Buol-Schauenstein; envoy to St. Petersburg and London, 1852-1859 
Foreign Minister. His indecision in the  Crimean War, led to discord 
with Russia and caused the isolation of Austria in Europe. His 
diplomatic mistakes led to a second  Sardinian War in 1859.
