b. Coburg (Germany), Dec. 26, 1737, 
d. Coburg (Germany), Feb. 28, 1815, general in service with Austria; 
1789 defeated the Turks at Foscani and at Martinesti together with the 
Russian marshal A. W. Suwarow; 1793 defeated the French in the 
victories of Aldenhoven and Neerwinden and so won back the Austrian 
Netherlands.
