b. Hyršperk, Czech Republic (then Hirschberg), 1587, d. Goettweig Abbey (municipality of Furth bei Goettweig, Lower Austria), Jan. 9, 1648, priest in Retz (Lower Austria), 1631 abbot of Goettweig, 1638 Rector of the University of Vienna. His collection of hymns "Gross Catholisch Gesangbuch" (1625, from the third edition onwards: "Geistliche Nachtigal der Catholischen Teutschen") is the most important collection of this kind from the early 17th century. C. tried to revive church singing on the basis of folk singing.
