835 m, pop. 1,580, area 94.31 km%%sup 2/%, winter tourist resort 
(117,332 overnight stays) in Klostertal valley, at the foot of the 
Rote Wand mountain (alt. 2,704 m). - Youth centre and holiday 
home. - Documented mention 1303 as "Zu Talaus" mining settlement; 
Gothic parish church, converted in accordance with Baroque taste 
(1792), with Baroque altars and Rococo pulpit, Heiligkreuzkirche 
church (1748) with elaborately carved high altar; close to Lake 
Formarinsee; Spullersee lake with storage power station of the 
Austrian Federal Railways (OeBB; built in 1925, 47,000 MWh).
