Degen, Josef Vinzenz, b. Graz (Styria), Jan. 23, 1763, 
d. Vienna, June 5, 1827. Printer; from 1803 produced masterpieces 
of printing with his own Roman and italics typefaces. In 1804 became 
director of the newly-founded Imperial printing works, the  
Oesterreichische Staatsdruckerei (state printers).
