b. St. Poelten (Lower Austria), Dec. 2, 1928, pianist; son of Otto  
Demus; trained under W. Gieseking, Y. Nat, A. Benedetti-Michelangeli 
and W. Kempff; first public performance in Vienna in 1942; one of the 
most successful Austrian pianists in the post-war period, also a 
popular accompanist.
