Demus, Otto, b. Harland near St. Poelten (Lower Austria), 
Nov. 4, 1902, d. Vienna, Nov. 17, 1990. Art historian, father of 
Joerg  Demus; 1929-1939 Head Curator of Carinthia, emigrated 1939. 
From 1946-1964 president of the Federal Office of Austrian Monuments; 
internationally renowned expert in the field of medieval and Byzantine 
monumental art. 1963-1973 professor of Austrian medieval and Byzantine 
art at the University of Vienna.
