Dentist: Austrian term denoting a member of the medical profession in 
the field of dentistry but without a university degree, as opposed to 
"Zahnarzt" (= dental surgeon); "Dentisten" are admitted to practice 
(pursuant to the law of February 23, 1949) after passing a state exam 
and obtaining authorisation from the Provincial Governor. Training of 
"dentisten" was abolished in 1975, and all aspirants now have to 
undergo university degree studies.
