!!!Deutschmeister

Deutschmeister, colloquial name of the former infantry regiment "Hoch- 
und Deutschmeister" no. 4 (established in 1696), based at Vienna. 
Facings sky-blue (dark blue tunic, blue trousers - after 1908 worn 
only during parades), under the command of the "Hoch- und 
Deutschmeister" (later merely honorary title). Traditional regiment in 
the Austrian Army during the 1%%sup st/%  and 2%%sup nd/% 
 Republics (now infantry regiment 2). Traditional memorial day 
June 18 (1757, Battle at Kolin). In the German Wehrmacht, 
the 44%%sup th/%  Infantry Division carried the name of "Hoch- 
und Deutschmeister" (annihilated at Stalingrad, later reconstituted). 
Still famous today are the Deutschmeister regimental band and the 
Deutschmeister Regiment March, composed in 1893 by W. A.  Jurek. 
There are monuments at several locations, including statues by A. 
Weber and J. Benk next to the Rossauer barracks in Vienna.
