Devrient, Max, b. Hanover (Germany), Dec. 12, 1857, d. Chur 
(Switzerland), June 14, 1929. Actor and director, husband of B.  
Devrient-Reinhold; from 1882 at the Burgtheater in Vienna (in 1910 
life member, in 1922 honorary member); roles included Wallenstein, 
Mephisto and Caesar; in 1920 began parallel career as film actor and 
director.
