b. Graz (Styria), June 17, 1885, 
d. Vienna, Jan. 31, 1946. Studied law, then embarked on a political 
career (Christian Socialist, member of the Fatherland Front 
''(Vaterlaendische Front), ''OeVP). At first employed in a savings 
bank, from 1920 civil servant in Styria. Governor of Styria 1933-34, 
member of the ''Staatsrat ''(State Council)'' ''1934-38. From 1934 
Professor of Canon Law, Graz University, forced to retire in 1939. 
Deputy Governor of Styria in 1945, co-founder of the Styrian OeVP, 
1945-46 member of the ''Bundesrat ''(Federal Council).
