Diesel Engine: six years after the registration of the patent by 
Rudolf Diesel (1892), the Vienna-based company Langen & Wolf built the 
first diesel engine in Austria in 1898/99. Since then the diesel 
engine has been employed for power generation and as a vehicle engine.
