Distler, Johann Georg, b. in or near Vienna, 1765,
d. Vienna, July 28, 1799. Violinist and composer, favourite pupil
of J. Haydn; 1781 to 1796 member of the Stuttgart "Hofkapelle" (Court
orchestra) (finally orchestra director), then lived in Vienna as a
well-known composer of chamber music; dedicated his works to Princess
Sophie and Prince Carl of Wuerttemberg, as well as Grand Prince Paul
of Russia.

6 quartets, 1791; 6 quartets for violins and violoncelli, 1791;
6 quintets, 1799 (lost).
