Dobersberg, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Waidhofen an
der Thaya, alt. 465 m, pop. 1,801 (1981: pop. 1,897), area
47.60 km%%sup 2/%, on the River Thaya, near the border to the
Czech Republic in the northern Waldviertel region. - District Chamber
of Agriculture, Lower Austrian district agricultural authorities,
civilian airfield, landscape preservation area (includes the cadastral
districts of D., Riegers and Merkengersch), nature preserve; wood
manufacturing, production of textiles. - First documented in 1112,
parish church with Gothic choir, Baroque nave and late Gothic
tabernacle, Dobersberg castle (around 1570, altered in 1805, renovated
in 1972) with collections of insects and minerals and large park, now
municipal administrative offices.
