b. Karlovy Vary, Czech republic (then Karlsbad), Sept. 22, 1889, 
d. Tullnerbach (Lower Austria), Jan. 9, 1964, painter. 1906-1910 
studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna; 1946-1963 teacher at 
the Academy and teacher of artists such as G.  Hoke, A.  
Hrdlička, J.  Mikl and A.  Rainer. Expressive dark/light painting 
style using vivid colours; important watercolour painter. Awarded the 
Grand Austrian State Prize in 1962.
