Donauland Buchgemeinschaft, book club founded 1950 by R. Kremayr and 
W. Scheriau ( Kremayr & Scheriau). By 1955 it already had 378,000 
members; it started selling records in 1956 and cassettes in 1970. In 
1966 the Bertelsmann company acquired an interest in the book club. In 
1989 take-over of the Deutsche Buchgemeinschaft Alpenland and in 1990 
of the Deutscher Buecherbund Oesterreich. About 700,000 members in 
2000.
