Donawitz, upper Styria, alt. 540 m, part of the city of Leoben, 
industrial estate in the Vordernberg Valley, centre of  VOEST-Alpine 
(former Oesterreichisch-Alpine Montangesellschaft) with the 
VOEST-Alpine Schienen GmbH, VOEST-Alpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH and 
VOEST-Alpine Draht-Austria companies. - Mentioned as "Tumoiz" in 1155, 
Roman settlement (Roman sepulchral chapel, 3%%sup rd/%  century, now 
in the Joanneum Museum in Graz), developed into the centre of heavy 
industry in Styria in the 19%%sup th/%  century. - Parish church 
(1954).
