!!!Dorflinde

Dorflinde, linden tree planted at a central location in a village
(close to the chapel), sometimes on a special occasion; in some
villages very old (e.g. in Dienten am Hochkoenig, planted 1506);
tradition rarely upheld in the 20%%sup th/% century. In the Middle
Ages the village court, which dealt with matters of self-government in
the village, was held under the village linden tree. The village
linden tree has played an important role in festivities and in
everyday life up to modern times.
