b. Linz (Upper Austria), Dec. 26, 1916, composer; studied under C. 
Orff and J. N.  David, taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in 
Linz, 1967-1987 professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg; awarded the 
Austrian State Prize for Music in 1962.
