b. Wels (Upper Austria), Nov. 5, 1808, 
d. Linz (Upper Austria), April 23, 1886, geologist, studied natural 
sciences and pharmacy, 1841-1879 curator at the Museum of the Province 
of Upper Austria, pioneer of geological studies of Upper Austria and 
Salzburg. Published fundamental geological and paleontological works 
on Upper Austria and Salzburg; also worked at the Imperial Geology 
Institute.
