b. Olomouc, Czech Republic (then Olmuetz), April 17, 1817, 
d. Vienna, April 18, 1885, art historian. First professor of art 
history in Vienna (1852); initiator and first head of the Austrian 
Museum of Art and Industry (established 1864, now the  Museum of 
Applied Art, Austrian, as well as the School of Arts and Crafts, 
established 1867, now the University of Applied Art. ( Art 
Universities).
