!!!Elßler, Fanny Franziska

b. Vienna, June 23, 1810, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 27, 1884, one of the most famous dancers of the first 
half of the 19th century; daughter of Johann  Elssler. Even as a 
child, E. danced at the Theater an der Wien with her sister Theresia  
Elssler, 1817-1825 at the Kaerntnertortheater, numerous guest 
performances abroad; 1851 retired from the stage; became especially 
well known for her highly realistic national and character dances 
(Cachucha, Cracovienne, Smolenska, Russkaya), which she performed in 
the appropriate national costumes ( Ballet).
