!!!Ender, Thomas

b. Vienna, Nov. 3, 1793, 
d. Vienna, Sept. 28, 1875, landscape painter, outstanding watercolour 
painter, twin brother of Johann Nepomuk  Ender. Patronized by Prince 
C.  Metternich, accompanied the Austrian expedition to Brazil in 
1817/18. 1823 commissioned by Metternich to work in the Salzkammergut 
region, from 1828 court painter for Archduke  Johann (travelled to 
East Asia and Southern Russia in 1837). 1837-1851 professor at the 
Vienna Academy. Painted several landscape series many of which were 
later engraved in steel by English artists. E.'s brilliance manifested 
itself in his lifelike vedutas with vivid colours and light effects, 
especially in his light-handed watercolour sketches.
