b. Vienna, Feb. 4, 1796, 
d. Vienna, April 14, 1871, landscape, genre and portrait painter, 
studied at the Academy in Vienna under H. Maurer and A. Petter; 
drawing teacher at the Engineering Academy, 1833 travelled to Italy, 
worked as a restorer, copyist and museum curator, from 1857 director 
of the imperial painting gallery in the Belvedere Palace. painted 
relatively little, with very simply composed, peaceful themes without 
theatricality or pose.
