!!!Engerth, Eduard Ritter von

b. Pszczyna, Poland (then Pless), May 13, 1818, 
d. Semmering (Lower Austria), July 28, 1897, portrait and historical 
painter; brother of mechanical engineer Baron Wilhelm von  
Engerth. From 1854 director of the Academy in Prague, also worked on 
the frescoes in the  Altlerchenfeld Church in Vienna, 1865 professor 
at the Academy in Vienna, from 1871 director of the imperial painting 
gallery in Belvedere Palace. began with a Romantic style and was 
influenced by the Nazarenes, E.'s later works, however, tended more 
towards realistic painting.
