Expropriation, partial or complete deprivation of property on grounds 
of public interest against compensation (§ 365 Austrian 
General Civil Codes); since 1867, only allowed if certain legal 
provisions are met (Article 5 of the Constitutional Law). Many 
special laws have been enacted, the most significant being the 
Eisenbahn-Enteignung-Gesetz (Railway E. Law) of 1878.
