__History of the European Anthem __ \\ \\
In 1972, the prelude to the "Ode to Joy" from Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony #9 was adopted as the European anthem by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Beethoven had written his "Ninth" with the text by the German poet Friedrich Schiller in the years 1822-1824 in Vienna. The poem, written in 1785, arose from Schiller's idealistic idea of people who should become brothers - a vision shared by Beethoven. \\

__Herbert von Karajan__ was commissioned to arrange three instrumental versions - for solo piano, wind and symphony orchestra. In the universal language of music, the anthem was meant as an expression of the idealistic values of freedom, peace and solidarity that Europe stands for. In 1985, the song was adopted by the EU Heads of State and Government as the official anthem of the EU. __Geschichte der Europahymne__\\ \\
Im Jahre 1972 wurde das Vorspiel zur "Ode an die Freude" aus der IX. Symphonie Ludwig van Beethovens vom Ministerkomitee des Europarats zur Europahymne bestimmt. Beethoven hatte seine "Neunte" mit dem Text Friedrich Schillers in den Jahren 1822-1824 in Wien geschrieben. Das 1785 entstandene Gedicht entsprang Schillers idealistischer Vorstellung von Menschen, die zu Brüdern werden - eine Vision, die auch Beethoven teilte.\\

__Herbert von Karajan__ wurde damit beauftragt, drei Instrumentalfassungen - für Solopiano, Blas- und Symphonieorchester - zu arrangieren. In der universalen Sprache der Musik soll die Hymne Ausdruck der idealistischen Werte Freiheit, Frieden und Solidarität sein, für die Europa steht. 1985 wurde das Musikstück von den Staats- und Regierungschefs der Union als offizielle Hymne der EU angenommen. Sie soll die Nationalhymnen der Mitgliedstaaten nicht ersetzen, sondern die Werte, die die Völker Europas teilen versinnbildlichen und seine Einheit in der Vielfalt ausdrücken. Im Text für einen [Vertrag über eine Verfassung Europas (2004)|http://eur-lex.europa.eu/JOHtml.do?uri=OJ:C:2004:310:SOM:DE:HTML] wurde die Europahymne wie erwähnt als eines der fünf Symbole der Europäischen Union bezeichnet (vg. Man beachte in diesem Vorschlag die Verwendung der Devise "In Vielfalt geeint", die Bezugnahme auf die politischen Grundprinzipien Friede, Freiheit und Solidarität sowie die Aufnahme der Flaggensymbolik in den Text.\\ \\
In jüngster Zeit bemüht sich die Wiener Pianistin Susanne Rittenauer in besonderer Weise um die Popularisierung der gesungenen Europahymne. Die Künstlerin arbeitet an der Errichtung eines Beethovenzentrums mit Dokumentation der Europahymne.\\ \\
Es soll an dieser Stelle auch darauf hingewiesen werden, dass sich nicht nur Dr. Peter Roland unermüdlich für den lateinischen Text der Europahymne einsetzt, sondern dass auch andere Bemühungen stattfanden, der EU-Hymne zu einem Text zu verhelfen. Für den Europäischen Kartellverband hat das Mitglied der K.Ö.H.V. Pannonia im ÖCV, Hofrat Dr. Paul Weiser (1935-2005), eine EKV-Hymne geschaffen. Sie wird nach der Weise "Strömt herbei, ihr Völkerscharen" gesungen. \\ \\
Weiters hat die damalige vorsitzende Verbindung im ÖCV, die Innsbrucker Verbindung K.a.V. Rheno-Danubia, 1999/2000 dem "Gaudeamus" folgende siebente Strophe hinzugefügt: \\ \\
