Ab 1929 Universitätsprofessor für med. Chemie in Wien; beherrschte als einer der letzten Wissenschaftler das gesamte Gebiet der Biochemie und arbeitete quantitative Messmethoden zur Bestimmung biochemischer Stoffe aus; war maßgeblich an der Adrenalinsynthese beteiligt und erforschte als einer der Ersten die Hormone. Von ihm stammt eine Methode der Milchsäurebestimmung.
