d. Vienna, Feb. 7, 1871, expert in forestry, 1851-1869 head of 
the Austrian forest administration, taught at the Mining Academy 
Schemnitz; drafted the 1852 Austrian Forestry Act and forest census 
tables (1854), parts of which are still in use today.
