d. Schoppernau, April 26, 1869, farmer, poet, educational and social 
reformer; grandfather of Franz Michael  Willam. Representative of 
poetic realism and of the sociocritical novel in Austria. wrote 
stories of village life and was severely attacked by the ultramontane 
clergy.
