Feldwebel (roughly equivalent to "sergeant"), at the time of 
lansquenet mercenary armies, the Feldwebel functioned as a liaison 
between the lansquenets and the captain; from the 18%%sup th/%  
century until 1918 a rank of a non-commissioned officer; corresponds 
to today´s rank of Oberwachtmeister.
