Rock Paintings: In Austria some 20 areas with rock paintings have been 
found, primarily in the Northern Limestone Alps (Upper Austria, Styria 
and the province of Salzburg, especially in the region around the 
Lofer mountain); only a number of these rock paintings are thought to 
date from prehistoric times. Photographs, documentation, reproductions 
and prints of rock paintings can be found in the Austrian Museum of 
Rock Paintings in Spital am Pyhrn (Upper Austria). The investigation 
and study of rock paintings in Austria is carried out by the Anis 
society, located in the Enns valley in Styria, which publishes its 
findings in its own journal ("Mitteilungen der Anisa")
