Felsenstein, Walter, b. Vienna, May 30, 1901, 
d. Berlin (Germany), Oct. 8, 1975, director; started his career 
as an actor in Germany; later director in Zurich and Berlin; from 1947 
director of the "Komische Oper" in East Berlin ("realistic music 
theatre", which closely follows the musical score); numerous 
guest directions. In 1974 an already signed 3-year contract with the 
Vienna Burgtheater was cancelled.
