Television, electronic system (in practical use since approx. 1935) of 
transmitting and reproducing moving images from a transmitter to 
receivers via cable ( Cable Television) or air-borne radio signals 
(terrestrial transmission or via radio satellites). The earliest 
experiments in Austria ( RAVAG) were started in 1928-1930, trial 
broadcasts for the general public began in 1955. Regular television 
broadcasts commenced on January 1, 1957. Television and sound 
radio programmes are now produced by  ORF or by  regional radio 
stations.
