!!!Figdor, Albert

Figdor, Albert, b. Baden (Lower Austria), May 16, 1843,
d. Vienna, Feb. 22, 1927, banker and art collector. Focused on arts
and crafts and owned one of the most important private collections in
Austria before World War II. Since his plans to donate the collection
to the newly opened Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum did not
materialize in 1891, he later bequeathed the collection to Heidelberg.
After auctions in Vienna and Berlin in 1930, museums in Vienna
acquired only a small part of the collection.
