Film Censorship: In the early days of film-making, censoring film
material was practiced in accordance with Sec. 23 of the Governor's
Decree of 1851, according to which all films were subject to approval
by a government agency which was authorised to prohibit their
screening. In 1918 the Provisional National Assembly abolished
censorship, which was reintroduced in 1934. In 1945, based on the
Federal Constitution of 1929, the practice of censoring film material
was once again abolished (with the exception of the rating of films
according to their appropriateness for young audiences).
