Company Register, computer database with central storage in the  
Bundesrechenzentrum (Federal Computing Centre) which replaced the 
Commercial Register (Handels- und Genossenschaftsregister). In 
addition to the Land Register, the Company Register is the most 
important source of information in the public interest, containing 
data on companies subject to commercial law and their assets. The 
Company Register is kept by the lower courts; private (online) access 
to the information in the Company Register (for example for notaries) 
is allowed.
