Firmian, Count Leopold Ernst, b. Trento (Italy), Sept. 22, 1708, 
d. Passau (Germany), March 13, 1783, bishop. 1739 Bishop of 
Seckau, 1763 Bishop of Passau (last administrator of Upper Austria and 
Lower Austria), 1772 cardinal. In 1769 he initiated the reform of the 
educational system under Maria Theresia.
