b. Nuremberg (Germany), Feb. 25, 1947, expert in economic geography. 
Visiting professor at Wroclaw University (1978/79) and at the 
University of Santa Barbara (1988), since 1988 Professor at the 
Department of Economic and Social Geography of the University of 
Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, head of department. 
His works focus esp. on technologically-oriented systems research, 
regional development and taxonomy. Editor of the periodical 
"Geographical Systems" as well as of the book series "Advances in 
Spatial Science" and "Gesellschaft, Raum und Umwelt".
