b. Berlin (Germany), May 28, 1925, German singer (baritone); 
repeatedly guest performer at the Vienna State Opera, regular 
performances at the Salzburg Festival. Also a well-known singer of 
lieder. Wide repertoire extending from Romantic composers (e.g. F. 
Schubert) to 20th-century composers (e.g. G. von Einem, H. W. Henze). 
Retired from singing in 1992; since then conductor, teacher and 
author.
