Fleischer, Max (Maximilian), b. Kraków, Poland, July 19, 1883,
d. Los Angeles (USA), Sept. 12, 1972, cartoonist, animator. Came to
the USA as a child. At first made drawings for newspapers and from
1915 animation studies for Paramount. Made his first film, "Out of the
Inkwell", in 1916. Together with his brother Dave he participated in
the creation of various Paramount cartoon series from 1919, such as
"Betty Boop" (from 1934) and "Popeye the Sailor" (from 1936). Father
of film director Richard F.
