b. Vienna, Aug. 5, 1846,
d. Vienna, Oct. 22, 1891, physiologist, professor at the University of
Vienna, prosector with C. von Rokitansky. After an occupational
injury had to give up his career as pathologist. 1874 habilitation in
physiology. His research concentrated especially on circulation
disorders and on the physiology of nerves and muscles. Constructed
apparatus to explore the action of muscles and nerves, invented the
haemometer and adapted the capillary electrometer for physiological
tests.
