Franchy, Franz Karl, b. Bistrita, Slovakia (then Bistritz), Sept. 21, 1896, 
d. Vienna, Feb. 20, 1972, narrative writer and dramatist. Originally 
an officer, and lived in Vienna since the end of World War I. Best 
known for his dramas. In 1955 awarded the Austrian State Prize for 
drama.
