Freist, Greta, b. Weikersdorf (Lower Austria), July 27, 
1904, d. Paris (France), Sept. 19, 1993, painter, graphic 
artist. 1924-1930 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with 
R.  Jettmar and R.  Bacher; 1934-1936 shared a studio with Gottfried 
Goebel and H. v.  Doderer; 1936 emigrated to Paris. Member of the 
artists´ association "Der Kreis". In early years her 
work was characterised by a magically tinged realism; from 1949, after 
a phase of abstract painting, she returned to representational forms, 
mainly with themes related to contemporary issues.
